The Myth of the Racist Republicans

Conservative Republicans are Racists and Bigots? Think Again

By Giles Babb
October 1, 2005

Conservatives---particularly conservative Republicans----are racists and bigots always out to subjugate the little guy, women and children---or they support those or condone those who essentially are. Liberals---particularly Liberal Democrats---are the good guys. So goes the common "wisdom" of the past 40 years or so.

Let's examine this premise through the eyes of an evolved Carter Democrat belonging to "Generation Jones" (ie, me).

According to so-called "liberals," so-called "conservatives" want to turn back the clock on race.

In actuality:
I guess that's why most so-called "liberals" and Democrats in general insist on perpetuating a culture of victim-hood and the soft bigotry of lowered expectations, pooh-poohing the "conservative" Republican idea of vouchers for inner-city parents wishing to send their kids to schools that actually demand and get results from their students, and dismissing the "racist" Republican concept of an "ownership society" as merely some risky, racist, conservative scheme to make white people richer and keep everyone else in paupery, whereas in reality an ownership society is the surest way to justice, peace and societal---which of course includes racial---harmony (cf
Genesis 13:8-19; Summa theolgiae II-II, q.66, a.2; Towards a Better Distribution of Land, by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, element 29). I guess that's why "liberals" and Democrats in general have also been the most vocal supporters of the targeted genocide and subliminal racism that has been visited upon the African American community by Planned Parenthood (and similar type groups), and why "liberals" also insist that development aid for Africa be conditioned on subliminally racist population programs pushing abortion and contraception (cf Evangelium Vitae, elements 4, 16, 18 and 91; Ethical and Pastoral Dimensions of Population Trends, by the Pontifical Council for the Family, elements 69-72). It is also worth noting that those who took out of context and criticized the comments by Bill Bennett on his September 28, 2005 "Morning in America" radio show are actually the same ridiculous and morally reprehensible, hypocritical, "liberal," pro-abortion racist bigots who have had no problem with the genocidal efforts directed toward the African-American community and the Third and Fourth World in general by Planned Parenthood and economic development programs conditoned on abortion and contraception. Some of the more vocal critics of Bill Bennett were basically those who never saw an abortion they didn't like. It's ironic that they've suddenly sound as if they're pro-life, especially since their kind essentially believes that death solves everything (ie, no man, no problem) since one of the arguments that they've made for the use of contraception with abortion as a "backup" measure as part of development assistance and population programs for Africa is that it can allegedly be a means of reducing poverty, crime and suffering---basically the same ridiculous and morally reprehensible stance that the Church and Bill Bennett have condemned. It's almost comical to see the most vehement pro-abortion politicians and political leaders suddenly sound as if they're pro-life in their reactionary ** response to what was a willful and knowing distortion of what Bill Bennett said.

**I say reactionary since their view is essentially a very rigid stance of "abortion now, abortion tomorrow, abortion forever." Just like Joe Mcarthy, these reactionary liberal bigots and zealots basically have no sense of decency.

According to so-called "liberals" and Democrats in general, abortion and contraception were supposed to "free" women as well as their so-called "partners" to enjoy themselves without consequence, to "liberate" women from the supposedly conservative Republican "bondage" of potential motherhood, and to make it so that the only children are those that are "wanted."

Actual "liberal" result:
Violence against women has continued if not increased, women are regarded and treated as mere objects of selfish enjoyment (cf
Humane Vitae, element 17), and now men are increasingly receiving the same kind of treatment from women. Child abuse---and I'm not referring to routine (Psalm 51:7-8) instances of a bruised butt from a well-deserved and divinely-ordained visit with "Mr. Belt" (cf Proverbs 23:13-14; 20:30; Sirach 30:1-12; Hebrews 12:6)------has increased, the covenant nature of the marital bond has been devalued to the point that nearly a third of all kids now grow up in single-parent households, people as a whole consequently are feeling a total sense of rootlessness, and many people are left wondering if they were "wanted" by their parents only because it was convenient. All this in a "liberal," "liberated" society that supposedly is so much better now that a meaningful spanking as one of the means of instruction in virtue is outlawed, while children are desensitized at a very early age into accepting all kinds of sexuality---no matter how depraved----well before it's truly necessary (or even necessary).

If reproductive "choice" under Roe v. Wade continues to be the "law" of the land, then women must be guarranteed an authentic freedom of choice. This means that any Federal support needs to ensure that the only "choice" that women have access to isn't merely abortion, and that they have equal and easy access to other options. This means that a free-market approach is in order, whereby abortion clinics are not given one cent more, in the way of Federal funds, than those given to crisis pregnancy centers that help a woman to bring her child (and it IS a child) to term and then in supporting the mother in her decision to raise the child or put the child up for adoption. This applies equally to any funds given directly for medical insurance or other financial assistance in the exercise of "reproductive choice." Either that, or the Federal government (and State and local governments if they so choose), in trying to simplify---and hence bring equity to---the role of government and any government rulings involving medical insurance and the like, should get out of such funding practices and rulings altogether for both abortion clinics AND crisis pregnancy centers. We are, after all, talking about TRUE and EQUAL freedom of choice. Not where the only "choice" is 'abortion now, abortion tomorrow, abortion forever.' Do that (TRUE Freedom of Choice), and I think you'll see who the real cold-blooded, money-hungry, bigotted zealots are. I propose to you that the loudest, vilest---and I dare say implicitly violent----voices won't be those issuing from the operators and supporters of so-called "pro-life" crisis pregnancy centers in debating such a proposal

Has all this public "sex education" in the past 40 years really made for better-rounded adults in addition to a more responsible use of sexuality? Just look around. Will society truly be better off in this "liberal" environment where it's "perfectly legal" for Heather to have two mommies (or two daddies)?. Consider the violence threatened against Lot by the citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah, and then look and see how those in the so-called "gay" community that insist that homosexual activity is somehow a "right" that needs to be protected by marriage laws behave toward those who dare to speak out against this. I venture to say that the attitude and behavior toward them comes perilously close to that exhibited toward Lot and his visitors in Sodom (cf Genesis Ch19; Ezekiel 16:49-50). It should thus be no mystery why places that insist on legalizing such practices as a general rule continue to lose population and have fewer and fewer young families moving there, since most people of right mind don't like it when the force of law---particularly that of the natural moral law---is supplanted by the law of force such as existed in Sodom and Gomorrah and now exists in many places in the United States as depravity is being forced if not enforced onto others, and especially around their children.

The Church out of love has dared to speak the truth that sets one free in these matters (cf John 8:32; Ephesians 4:15; On the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons; Non-Discrimination Against Homosexual Persons, issued by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1986 and 1992, respectively). In return, efforts have been made in many quarters to silence the messenger if not the message, and the "popular" media and the "popular" culture have taken various ugly swipes at and made various insinuations that the Church and her people are just a bunch of intolerant, conservative, racist, bigots, when in reality, all they ever wanted to do---if ever they did want to take us back in time---was to take us "back to" the future that our Heavenly Father willed for us before the liar and murderer (cf John 8:44) screwed things and confused things so royally for us all (cf Genesis Ch 4). Once again, I really have to wonder who the real backward-thinking "conservative" bigots and racists are, since the liar and murderer who introduced evil into the world (which, yes, does include such things as murder, theft, greed, and sexual depravity and the destruction or devaluation of marriage and parenthood) has done a pretty good job in enticing and coercing people into allegedly-"liberal" means of turning back the clock by interfering with divine and hence human progress (cf Psalm 104:30, 127:1-2;Genesis Chs6 and 11), which of course does---like it or not, have a moral and spiritual component to it (cf Habakkuk 2:4; Centesimus Annus, elements 34-47). And please, before any of you reading this start launching into polemics about the Church's alleged hypocrisy w/r the sex abuse scandals, the following page is for you:
Church Sex Abuse Scandals: The Hypocrisy of it All

The Culture of Perpetual Victim-Hood that has progressively permeated so much of society in the past few decades and which attempts to rationalize any kind of behavior----regardless of how destructive for individuals and society as a whole---has ultimately had some odd side-effects. This "culture," which at times almost has the nature of a philosophy, ideology and ultimately a false theology, makes excuses for any kind of behavior, then demands recompense for the alleged causes of such behavior as a means of punishment and revenge at worst, and at best in order to "level the playing field" in the name of "equality" and "justice," as opposed to the kind of reconciliation, solidarity and personal and collective growth that only occurs when individuals realize they must Truly change if they want their lives to Truly change (cf John 12:24; Matthew 5:29-30; Mark 8:34-36; Dives in Misericordia, elements 119-123; 144-148). Basically, in the "divorce" of Mercy from Justice by forsaking the Truth that keeps them together (cf Psalm 85:11; Summa theologiae, I, q. 21, a. 2), the following has all too often resulted:

Consequently, in such an amoral and ultimately immoral human ecology, even where otherwise just laws exist, their interpretation, implementation and enforcement depend ultimately and exclusively on judges (cf Judges 21:25; Summa theolgiae I-II, q.95, a.1. obj.2), which is just one step away from dictatorship (1 Samuel Ch 8). Unfortunately, in such a system of unjust judges permitted by a society that has forsaken Truth and Righteousness, even a democracy becomes a thinly disguised form of totalitarianism (cf Evangelium Vitae, elements 20 and 70).

Given the eclipse of the pure, True Light of the moral and hence Eternal Law, it should thus be no surprise that much of the world has been plunged into a dark new barbaric age (cf
Divini Redemptoris, element 21; Evangelium Vitae, element 21) of lawlessness, since the most grievous and licentious of behaviors are tolerated, celebrated and in some cases sanctioned by law under the guise of "freedom and equity for all." More like a freedom to be abused equally by any and by all, and to do likewise to any and to all----just as in Sodom and Gomorrah and their modern-day equivalents (cf Genesis Ch 19; Ezekiel 16:49-50). What Liberalism--as it has manifested itself in the past 40 years especially---has accomplished is neither "liberal" nor "liberating," but instead has succeeded in keeping some people in a literal ghetto and ALL people in a "ghetto" of the heart, mind and soul called Sin (cf Isaiah 61:1; Hebrews 2:14-15).

Kelo v. New London: Pop-Libs and Pop-Cons Unite
There is evidence, however, that the liberal bigots---as they've manifested themselves in recent years-----have perhaps overstepped their bounds: The recent High Court decision---Kelo v. New London---on eminent domain seizures. It's always been my contention that true populist liberals and true populist conservatives have much more in common than many people realize. Both truly have the interest of the little guy at heart. True populists detest Big Government, Big Business (which isn't always favorable to individual small businesses) and Big Labor, and they detest the results whenever these three get in bed with one another. They also have come to progressively detest the role and interference of Big Education both w/r their property tax dollars as well as the questionable product coming out w/r their kids' education. Very rarely have Pop-Cons and Pop-Libs come together on a national level. They have, on the other hand, united frequently at the local level at times in opposing poorly-conceived (ie, expensively-designed and inefficient) School Bond packages and various kinds of Public Works and Natural Resource-related Bond Projects. In almost all instances, the single-election coalitions formed involve opposition to some scheme involving a collaboration of Big Government, Big Labor, Big Business and in many cases Big Education. Visit this link for a related discussion along these lines:
Fueling Suburban Sprawl: Corporate Donors to School Bond Elections.
Increasingly, they have also come to appreciate that the almost narcotic-like effect of the so-called "social assistance state" indeed robs the very people it was suposedly meant to "protect" of their dignity and energies so as to keep them in continued bondage to such a system and the conditions such a "system" was supposed to relieve (cf
Centissimus Annus, elements48-49), while at the same time threatening, via a continued encroachment of taxes and fees, the ability of individuals to have some small enterprise that can bring wealth into their lives and the lives of others in the communities in which they live (cf Rerum Novarum, element 47). Pop-Libs and Pop-Cons are thus progressively coming to unite in order to oppose what they see as a level of governmental interference the effect of which holds back minorities and low-income groups in making true advancement, since such oppressive and wasteful government, and the taxes, fees and inflation that such can create, always hurt those with least resources first. Nevertheless, Liberal Democrats have the gall to still call Conservative Republicans racist bigots. They really need to look themselves in the mirror for the first time in maybe 40 years, since much of what Liberal Democrats continue to propose (maintain, actually) is doing a pretty good job of segregating low-income groups and minorities---through the excesses of the "social assistance state" and the punitive taxation necessary in supporting its existence----from full participation in economic and social life.

I predict that the end of liberalism as it's manifested itself in recent decades is at hand. For some time now American Liberalism has ceded the moral high ground. James Carville may have hatched the slogan, 'it's the economy, stupid.' Up to a point, it's true. In the future, I predict the slogan will be "it's the abortion, stupid." And true Pop-Libs and Pop-Cons will unite in agreement on this and on several other things, and one of those "other things" will be attempts to eventually overturn the eminent domain seizure ruling, since the ruling is a slap in the face for the little man in support of Big Government and Big Business, and hence something to galvanize both Pop-Libs and Pop-Cons. And that small fraction of the populace who are racists and bigots---be they of liberal or conservative stripe---will be racists and bigots.

Possibly a good indication of how sclerotic the kind of liberalism presently espoused largely by the Democratic party has become, is how it seemed like quite frequently at the John Kerry campaign rallies the main workers union represented (if the number of signs in the C-Span shots was an indication) was AFSCME----the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees. Not exactly something to get either a Pop Lib or a Pop Con very excited---unless you mean mad the next time there's a local election to approve some kind of Bond Project that will ultimately increase property taxes, rates for utilities and other state, county or municipal services, or licensing, registration and permitting fees.
