Because we have "divorced" Mercy from Justice, and this is because we’ve forsaken the Truth that keeps them together. (cf Psalm 85:11; Summa Theologiae, I, q. 21, a. 2).

• A false "Justice" that, devoid of Mercy, is a form of self-righteous vindictiveness, often-times rooted in brute force and shear hatred (cf Revelation 2:1-7).
• A false "Mercy" that, devoid of any love of Truth or respect for Justice, ends up tolerating any kind of behavior, attitude, or life-style, no matter how harmful to individuals or society at large. (cf Revelation 2:18-29).

Both of these false qualities manifest themselves most vividly and farcically in, for example, instances of abortion clinic violence, or so-called "homophobia" when someone living a homosexual "lifestyle" is attacked or killed. What usually follows is what amounts to a most virulent, if not violent, ‘lovers' quarrel’ between the two sets of lies. (cf Genesis 3:16; cf Mulieris Dignitatem, element 10)

• We can return to the Truth which the Church, our Mother and Teacher, proclaims "about Christ, about Herself, and about Man" (cf Sollicitudo Rei Socialis, element 41).

• We can return at the sound of the Voices of our Father of Tender Mercy (cf 2 Corinthians 1:3), and the Good Shepherd (cf John 10:1-18)---Voices that can be heard at all times and in all matters through the Magisterium of the Pastors of the Church, the only True and Certain ‘expert in humanity’ (cf Sollicitudo Rei Socialis, element 41).
• We can embrace that Truth like an errant spouse who has returned home to stay (cf Jeremiah 31:22).
